History of the School
About four kilometers north from the ferestal town of La Carlota City is a place named Brgy. Batuan. It is surrounded by rice fields which are owned by the kind and generous person named Leopoldo Soberano. Most of the inhabitants rented a piece of land from him to earn a living. Since people relied solely on farming, life becomes very difficult for them. To uplift their way of living, people tried to give their children the education they needed. However, acquiring education is challenging for children had to walk a total of about 8 kilometers every day in going to school which is located at the city proper. The distance of school from home was the very reason why some of the children were not able to finish even just their primary education. Mr. Leopoldo Soberano, to address the need of the children and in view of his love and affection to the service of the inhabitants, he donated a two-hectare land as a school site on March 1960.
On the date when the site was donated, a classroom which was made of Nipa and bamboo was built with the help of the newly elected city mayor Hon. Jaime Mariño and Vice-mayor Jo Flores. It catered about 15 grade 1 pupils with Ms. Zenia Doloso as their teacher. On the next school year, the second grade was added where Ms. Doloso served as a multi-grade teacher for she handled the grade 1 and grade 2 pupils in a room which was partitioned by a chalkboard.
In 1969 a Marcus-Type building was constructed on the site. The construction of additional rooms gave way for the school to offer a complete elementary education to the children living in the area and the nearest haciendas such as, Hda. Salvacion and Hda. Sta. Rita. It also liberated the children who were in the intermediate from an 8-kilometer walk just to attend their classes.
In 1972, under the management of Mrs. Tumunong, Batuan Elementary School had its first batch of graduates which estimatedly 9 were girls and 7 were boys.
In 1977, under the leadership of Mrs. Socrates, a stage and a Bagong Lipunan building were built.
Over the years, leadership has changed hands with each head teacher leaving his/her indelible imprints of achievement on the school and they were; Mrs. Julia Delos Santos, Mr. Atilano, Mr. Avelino N. Santillan, Mr. Horacio Cabuguason, Mrs. Leilani D. Castillo, Mr. Rolando A. Heria, Mr. Nymrad Tadlan, Ms. Analiza M. Bionat, Mrs. Brenda N. Nazareno, Mrs. Sally Grace S. Ferrancullo, and at present by Mr. Edwin S. Aguilar.
The school is guided by the Mission-Vision, and Core Values as set by the Department of Education to attain its primary goal which is to provide quality education among its clienteles.
